Teaming up with Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg (HFHW) to build the Greenest Affordable Housing Development in Canada, ft3 has produced design drawings for single family as well as side by side units (duplexes) on the site of the former Sir Sam Steele School. HFHW purchased the site on Nairn Avenue from the Winnipeg School Division in October of 2007. In its largest initiative to date, the homes built by HFHW are built to both the Manitoba Hydro Power Smart Gold standard and to the LEED Platinum standards. In total, 34 Habitat families will call the area home. The first phase of the project was completed in 2010. One of the homes was designed to meet the needs of a family caring for a quadriplegic relative. This home received a City of Winnipeg Accessibility Special Recognition Award in 2010.
