Opaskwayak Cree Nation Health Centre

Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba

Phase one of a new health centre complex for OCN to house health authority offices and a medical clinic. This 1,073 sq. m. (4,500 sq. ft.) health centre was completed in 2011 with a construction cost of $4,000,000. The health centre is of wood frame construction on cast in place concrete grade beams on spread footings, and includes engineered wood trusses and an asphalt shingle roof. Considerations included a tight budget and an ambitious schedule. Key issues included:

  • Consideration of the needs of clients relative to dignity and privacy
  • Protection of personal information
  • Site safety, vandalism prevention, staff safety

The project is eligible for Power Smart rebates for the provision of Energy Star windows and energy efficient lighting. Other environmentally responsible features include lighting that reduces night light pollution, site drainage to allow for sediment settlement, and energy efficient systems such as low flow plumbing fixtures and Heat Recovery Ventilation systems.
