Stonewall Heritage Arts Centre
Stonewall, Manitoba
The new 1022 sq.m. (11,000 sq.ft.) facility replaces the former Visitor Reception Centre. The facility includes an interpretive centre and exhibits, multi-purpose space with a fixed stage for dance, theatrical performances and receptions, and space for dance and art classes. Natural light permeates the building, which offers exceptional views of the landscape. Sustainable features include 40% reduction in water use through low-flow water closets and waterless urinals. Regionally manufactured materials including structural steel and recycled elm wood panel products were utilized, along with materials using recycled content, such as gypsumboard, carpet tile and wood flooring. Low VOC products reduce off-gassing and improve indoor air quality. Completed in 2011, the building is targetting LEED Silver standards. Construction value is $5,200,000.
