This morning saw a significant shot in the arm for Southport Aerospace Centre.

The federal government contributed 1.5 million dollars from the Community Adjustment Fund toward construction of a 10 million dollar student accommodation building.

Portage Mayor Ken Brennan calls this an exciting day because Southport is important to the community, providing roughly 450 jobs.

RM of Portage Reeve Toby Trimble is very pleased, particularly because Southport is part of the RM. He notes the federal money adds to the project's momentum.

Southport CEO Barry Feller says the funding is a major step in solifying the project.

Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Hoeppner adds it's a good feeling for the government to contribute to Southport's vision.

Construction should start in spring.
