Brian Sinclair Inquest

Emergency Department Feasibility Study

Various Locations, Manitoba

A major assessment study of 11 rural and urban hospital sites to determine the impact of recommendations 14 and 24 of the Brian Sinclair Inquest. Focused on the implications of pre-triage waiting and monitoring of patients in the waiting area, the study addresses physical and staffing limitations in existing facilities across the province of Manitoba. The study, conducted by ft3 Architecture Landscape Interior Design utilizes fundamental Lean, CSA Z8000 and current/emerging standards for emergency department design.

The implications of the Brian Sinclair Inquest are far reaching with 68 recommendations intended to address systemic issues within the Canadian healthcare environment and, in particular, reduce instances of negligence. The focus of this study (provide architectural solutions to remove barriers within a variety of emergency departments that have a minimum of 10,000 visits per year, and that are small town rural, suburban, or urban facilities) optimizes current issues of triage, patient experience, response time, and security.

The project was completed in October 2016.
