Salem Home

Master Plan

165 - 15th Street, Winkler, Manitoba

The Salem Home long-term vision and Master Plan is a reflection of their vision of care for their residents.

Salem Home is a leader in Canada in providing long-term care with its implementation relationship centered care and measurement program QUIS-EH-O (Quality of Interaction Schedule – Environmental Health – Organizational Health).

Through the metaphor of organizing the building into ‘neighbourhoods’ and decentralizing some of the central facilities, Salem Home aims to increase the quality of interactions. Communities of up to 20 residents will enable the residents to build meaningful relationships, engage in activities and have autonomy in decision-making. The plan includes a memory care neighborhood; a coffee shop and "downtown" facilities to the south of a young residents building; PCH and/or transitional care; and a kitchen expansion. Also, the newly acquired residential lots would have a separate "spouse house" (senior/independent housing for the spouses of PCH residents).

The master planning exercise was completed in 2012 and included a 220 bed expansion complete with supporting amenities.
